Corey Black is an artist based on Gadigal land, whose practice orchestrates a fusion of diverse industrial and post-industrial fabrication methods. Collaborating closely with materials, craftspeople, labourers, and machines, Black employs disruptive modalities to unveil novel forms. Pushing difficult compositions into unyielding and occulted processes, his work embodies an elastic inquiry into process itself, seeking to illuminate the production methods imbued in each piece. Through this, Black challenges the entrenched pathways of consumption, technology and seduction within 21st-century art-making. Uncovering the uncanny amidst the ubiquitous, his work allows disparate elements to find common ground amongst contemporary rubble.

In 2021, he graduated from the National Art School with an MFA in Photomedia under the supervision of Hany Armanious and Geoff Kleem, aided by the LOOK Print / Standish & Co. Scholarship. He has exhibited with Firstdraft, Minerva, Australian Galleries, The British School at Rome and Hidden Rookwood as well as undertaken residences at the Corridor Project, Cowra and the British School at Rome, Italy. He is a co-director of Schmick Contemporary.
